The second day of action at the 51st Carifta Games 2024 saw some fairly good performances in field events during the Sunday’s (31 Mar) morning session at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada.

Jamaica Soars to Victory in Field Events at Carifta Games Day 2
In the Girls Triple Jump Under 20 final, Jamaica’s Kimeka Smith leaped to victory with a best mark of 13.68 meters, managing to secure the distance on her second attempt after starting with a foul. Annae Mackey from the Bahamas claimed silver with a consistent series, her best also coming on her second jump at 13.58 meters. Cayman Islands’ Brianna Smith completed the podium with a best attempt of 12.86 meters, setting her mark on the first try.
In the Boys Long Jump Under 20, Jamaica’s Rickoy Hunter soared to gold with 7.48 meters, marking the winning distance on his penultimate jump. Bernard Kemp from the Bahamas wasn’t far behind, landing at 7.40 meters for silver, and Teon Haynes of Barbados secured bronze with a jump of 7.32 meters.
Bahamas Dominates Javelin: Tasha Stubbs Hurls to New Heights
The Girls Javelin Throw Under 20 was dominated by the Bahamas with Tasha Stubbs throwing a stellar 50.94 meters on her third attempt to clinch gold. Her compatriot Vanessa Sawyer followed with a silver medal throw of 43.03 meters, achieved on her final attempt. Grenada’s own Alliah Gittens thrilled the home crowd by grabbing the bronze with a throw of 42.33 meters.
Also happened on Sunday morning were semifinals action in the 200m and 800m.
These young athletes not only showcased their athletic prowess but also the spirit of competition and camaraderie that the Carifta Games are all about.
