Team Jamaica remain committed next month’s 49th CARIFTA Games, set for April 10-13 in Bermuda.
“As of today, we are committed to going to Bermuda,” said Dr Warren Blake, president of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).
Several sporting events have been cancelled or postponed because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) that is spreading across the globe.
Bermuda is virus-free, but Jamaica reported two cases in the last week.
He, however, said, “we are still committed to carifta, but its a decision under review.”
On Wednesday, President of the Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) Donna Raynor says next month’s Carifta Games, set to attract more than 600 athletes from 27 Caribbean countries, should not be affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) that is spreading across the globe.
Dr Blake said the JAAA met and selected the team on Wednesday (11 March).
“We are travelling on a chartered flight directly into Bermuda,” he said.

College Scouts comes to Champs to recruit athlete yearly and not all of these athletes are on the Carifta team so what exactly or how exactly does cancelling Champs but attending Carifta gonna benefit these final year students some of which who were injured last year and were looking forward to doing well at Champs so as to secure a Scholarship. If the government is so concerned about safety then why cancel Champs but think it’s ok to send teams to Carifta smh
So Champs ain’t keeping and no Penns but the athletes can still attend Carifta games?????? Somebody explain this for me please….
