Danielle Williams became the first Jamaican woman to win a sprint hurdles Diamond League title. She won at Friday’s (6 Sept) Memorial Van Damme, Brussels Diamond League.
Williams, despite a long wait, while Tobi Amusan disputed a false start DQ, was up first and never surrendered her lead.
She zipped over the barriers with terrific verve to cross the line in 12.46, her third-fastest time of the season. Williams’ 12.32, a Jamaican record, makes her the fastest woman in the world this year.
World record holder Keni Harrison (12.73) was left chasing and at no time look as if she was catching up. Nia Ali (12.74) and Sharika Nelvis (12.83) also felt the damage done to the field by Williams.
Williams will go into the Doha 2019 World Championships as the gold medal favourite.
Earlier, Ronald Levy ran 13.31 for second in the men’s 110m hurdles, won by Orlando Ortega 13.22.
Natoya Goule, 2:01.40s, finished fifth in the women’s 800m.

Congrats to DW, she earned her spot. The Gold is hers to lose. .Jeneel Brown could take the silver. Williams is on fire and only she can cool herself. Don’t be surprise if Jamaica takes the medals . Our women are our only hope. Bolt certainly had the men working and his departure has been felt.
They can’t keep a good woman down no matter what they try. The JAAA must be licking their wounds now and full of shame after their stupid and egotistic blunder. Danielle Williams is Jamaica’s best female hurdler ever and no one can deny her of anything she deserves. God Blessed child.
Excellent race Danielle; I am so happy for you. CONGRATULATIONS!! ?
Congrats Danielle you made us and your country proud.

Kathleen Myrie ok I will check it out. Thanks
Everton Neil ….are you in the group Real Track and Field Fans?
Everton Neil I know, I am aware. But read the article in the group I posted, I tagged u twice.
Kathleen Myrie deemed eligible and being selected are two different thing. With her win today she booked her ticket to Doha irrespective of what JAAA do.
Everton Neil She was deemed eligible for selection by the JAAA’s on the 15th August, 2019
Kathleen Myrie did they announce a team?
Everton Neil That was settled long ago, she made the team.
Way to go Danielle. The whole subject of whether or not she is going to the World Championships is now mute. She took that decision away from the JAAA by winning the DL.
U go girl
No question
