KINGSTON, Jamaica – The FLOW Foundation has continued its proud tradition of providing financial and communications support to local track and field teams that participate in the annual Penn Relays Carnival hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
Today (April 19), the Foundation announced sponsorship to the tune of $4,030,000 for some 28 teams from institutions which will be participating in the world-renowned relay carnival hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in the United States since 1895..The amount represents an increase of almost 16 percent over last year’s investment, with four additional schools being added to the number awarded in 2015.
In making the announcement, Errol Miller, Executive Chairman of the FLOW Foundation noted that 2016 marks the 23rd consecutive year that the company has provided support to help send local teams to this prestigious event.
“Each year we are proud to do our part to help showcase the magnificent talent of our Jamaican athletes on an international stage and each year they continue to make our country and us, as sponsors, proud through their outstanding performances” Mr. Miller highlighted. “For some of the students, this is far more than an athletic meet. This can be an experience of a lifetime for many of them with the possibility of doors being opened to an exciting future–and we are delighted to be able to help the schools to get their athletes and officials to the event” he added.
Mr. Miller concluded by reminding the teams that while the main focus will be their performances on the track, they must at all times bear in mind that they are also goodwill ambassadors for Jamaica. He also encouraged them to pay keen attention to their academics as they contemplate their future.
The schools benefitting this year are: Ardenne High, Calabar High School, Camperdown High School, Convent of Mercy Academy (Alpha),Cornwall College, Edwin Allen High School, Excelsior, Herbert Morrison Technical High, Holmwood Technical High, Hydel High, Immaculate Conception, Jamaica College, Kingston College, Munro College, Papine High, Spalding High School, St Catherine High, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), St Jago High School, Greater Portmore High School, Petersfield High School, Green Island High School , Bellefield High School,The Queen’s School and Vere Technical High School.The high school teams receiving assistance for the first time from the Foundation are Greater Portmore High School, Petersfield High School, Green Island High School and Bellefield High School.
Tertiary institutions included on the sponsorship are the University of Technology (UTECH), GC Foster College and the University of the West Indies (UWI), which is also being assisted by the Foundation for the first time.
The 2016 Penn Relays will be staged from April 28 to 30 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
