BEIJING, China – Jamaica’s Danielle Williams captured the gold medal at the World Championships here on Friday.
It was somewhat of a mild upset, as she made good on some of the pre-race favourites crashing out in the semifinals.
She got a good start and had a slight lead shortly after and with Cindy Roleder of Germany fighting to get back, she held on for victory.
She won in a personal best of 12.57 second as Roleder also did a personal best of 12.59 for second with Alina Talay of Belarus finishing third in 12.66, which is a national record.
Shermaine Williams, the bigger sister of Danielle, finished 7th in 12.95.
