Due to poor weather, men’s action at the NCAA West Preliminary (startlist) was postponed until Saturday. 

Kemba Nelson of Oregon, who ran a wind-aided 10.91 (+2.1m/s) in the first round, will seek to make it to the NCAA National Championships. Fellow Jamaican Ackera Nugent, who ran a personal best, 11.09, will try to make her name in this event.

USC’s Twanisha Terry ran a legal 10.99 in the heats and is among the favourites.

Stacey-Ann Williams of Texas and Charokee Young of Texas A&M will face-off in heat 3 of the women’s 400m.

Texas A&M Athing Mu, who is chasing the world U20 record, is the danger in this event.

Kevona Davis, who ran a wind-aided 22.57 in the prelims, return Saturday along with her Texas Longhorn teammate Kynnedy Flannel.

Nugent is also in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Shaun Maswanganyi, with a season-best of 9.87 and Travis Collins, both of Houston, will be strong contenders in the men’s 100m.

Davonte Burnett of USC with 10secs flat, Texas A&M Devon Achane with 10.04 and Micah Williams of Oregon with 10.03 should also make it to Eugene.

Maswanganyi is also the top man in the 200m with 19.93. Micaiah Harris of Texas is the next best with 20.08.

Bryce Deadmon of Texas A&M with 44.50 this season and Johnnie Blockburger of Arizona with 44.71 are the leading 400m athletes.

Jamaican Sean Bailey of UTEP with 45.24 is also down to compete.
