Tynia Gaither of Bahamas was victorious, while Veronica Campbell-Brown picked up second at Tuesday’s (18 May) 2021 USATF Open at the Athletic Performance Ranch, Fort Worth, Texas.
Gaither won the women’s 200m dash. She ran 23.11 into a minus 2.6m/s wind to beat Americans Candace Hill 23.17 and Morolake Akinosun 23.26.
Gaither 11.72 did not make the 100m final, while Campbell-Brown’s time was 11.56.
In the final, Campbell-Brown, who ran a season-best of 11.28 in California earlier this month, was a bit slower this time in 11.55.
Mikiak Brisco of the USA won the event in 11.42.
Campbell-Brown won the most international medals for Jamaica. She won 20 medals at World Indoor, World Championships and Olympic Games.
Chrisann Gordon-Powell finished third in the women’s 400m. She ran 51.42 to finish behind Americans Allyson Felix, 50.88 and Jessica Beard 51.31.
Javon Francis ran out in the men’s 400m. He crossed the line in 46.74 while Trinidad and Tobago’s Asa Guevara finished 10th in 47.07. Michael Cherry won the event in 44.37, a personal best effort.
Rushelle Burton ended 8th in the women’s 100m hurdles. Her time of 13.93 placed her 8th in the event won by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico in 12.82.
Americans Christina Clemons of USA ran 12.92 for 2nd and Queen Claye, 13.21 for third.
Ruebin Walters of Trinidad and Tobago ran 13.73 for 2nd in the men’s 100m hurdles. Aaron Mallett of the USA won the event in 13.64. Barbadian Shane Brathwaite, 13.86 and Andrew Riley of Jamaica, 13.87, were 7th and 8th, respectively.
Riley, 13.85 in the heats, recorded the fastest time.
Jamaican Chanice Porter, 6.21m for 7th and Akela Jones of Barbados, 6.28m for 4th, were beaten by Ese Brume of Nigeria, 6.45m in the women’s long jump.
Ronnie Baker was the fastest in the heats with 10.28. He ran 1.39 to win the final ahead of fellow American Marvin Bract-Williams, 10.59.
