Gabby Thomas Sets the Track Ablaze with Impressive Wins in 100m and 200m at Texas Relays

Gabby Thomas stole the spotlight with her remarkable performance in the sprint events at last weekend’s (30 March) Texas Relays. Thomas, representing New Balance, clinched the women’s 100m and 200m invitational titles, showcasing her early dominance on the track.

In the 100m, Thomas clocked an impressive 10.88 seconds, leading the pack with a 2.2 m/s wind assistance. She won ahead of Celera Barnes of Sports Management & Marketing, who finished in 11.00 seconds, and Tamara Clark from ADIDAS, who crossed the line in 11.03 seconds. Kortnei Johnson, competing unattached, secured the fourth spot with a time of 11.18 seconds in a separate heat.

The 200m invitational saw Gabby Thomas again taking the top spot, this time with a meet record (MR) time of 22.08 seconds, aided by a 1.2 m/s wind. ADIDAS’ Tamara Clark once again trailed Thomas, finishing in 22.21 seconds. Lynna Irby-Jackson, also representing ADIDAS, and Niesha Burgher from UTEP rounded out the top four with times of 22.70 and 22.85 seconds, respectively.

“I feel good, I have been doing a lot of long-running, I am fit, and I am strong,” Gabby Thomas stated. She also mentioned, “I will hit the ground running with the speed work in April.”

Pablo Mateo Sweeps Sprint Titles at Texas Relays with Record-Breaking Performance

The 100m dash had its share of excitement, with Pablo Mateo from Ekace (France) winning the invitational race in 9.92 seconds, a wind-aided time. Shaun Maswanganyi of Houston claimed the non-invitational 100m dash in 10.09 seconds.

Mateo doubled his victories by also winning the men’s 200m invitational in a dramatic finish, recording a meet record of 20.03 seconds (20.024), narrowly edging out Tapiwanashe Makarawu by two thousandths of a second.

In the hurdles, the women’s 100m international invitational was won by Christina Clemons of TBBTC, posting a time of 12.79 seconds, with Kaylah Robinson and Andrenette Knight following. The non-invitational hurdles saw Denisha Cartwright take the victory in 12.81 seconds.

The men’s events featured notable performances in the 110m hurdles, with Michael Dickson winning the invitational race in 13.36 seconds. In the non-invitational hurdles, Antoine Andrews of Texas Tech emerged victorious with a time of 13.37 seconds.
