Habiba Harris Leads Jamaican Sweep in Sprint Hurdles at 51st Carifta Games

Habiba Harris of Jamaica made a resounding statement on the final day of the 51st Carifta Games, which saw Jamaica sweeping the sprint hurdles, at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada. Harris left the crowd in awe as she blazed through the hurdles with precision and speed, crossing the finish line in a scintillating time of 12.93 seconds.

Alexis James’ Carifta Games record of 13.06 still stands, because of a 2.4m/s tailwind.

Harris’ teammate Briana Campbell also showcased her talent, securing the silver medal for Jamaica with a commendable time of 13.11 seconds. Meanwhile, Sofia Swindell of the Virgin Islands (USA) took the bronze with a time of 13.95 seconds.

In the Girls 100-meter Hurdles Under 17 final, Jamaican athlete Malayia Duncan, aged 15, claimed the gold medal with a time of 13.63 seconds. Trailing closely behind, 16-year-old Jenna-Marie Thomas from Trinidad and Tobago secured the silver medal with a time of 13.74 seconds. Zsa-Zsa Frans of Curacao, also 16 years old, took the bronze medal with a time of 14.21 seconds.

In the Boys 110-meter Hurdles Under 17, Jamaica continued its winning streak as Michael Dwyer clinched the gold medal with a swift time of 13.81 seconds. Jahcario Wilson of the Bahamas followed closely behind, claiming the silver medal with a time of 13.94 seconds, while Robert Miller, also from Jamaica, secured the bronze with a time of 13.97 seconds.

Shaquane Gordon led Jamaica to victory once again in the Boys 110-meter Hurdles Under 20, crossing the finish line in 13.15 seconds. The 2.1m/s wind also spoiled what would have been a Carifta Games record run. Daniel Beckford contributed to Jamaica’s dominance by claiming the silver medal with a time of 13.25 seconds, while Lizheng Zhuang of Curacao took the bronze with a time of 13.94 seconds.
