Perez Hernandez Jumps to World Lead in Brescia; Caribbean Athletes on the Podium

BRESCIA, Italy (July 15) – Leyanis Pérez Hernández of Cuba produced the standout performance at the Grand Prix Brescia, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event, with a world-leading mark in the women’s triple jump.

Pérez Hernández recorded 14.92m (+0.1) in the final round to claim victory over compatriot Liadagmis Povea, who jumped 14.84m (-0.3). Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts secured third place with a best of 14.56m (+0.2). Bulgaria’s Gabriela Petrova followed in fourth, jumping 14.41m (-0.1).

In the women’s hammer throw, Olympic champion Camryn Rogers of Canada led the field with 76.86m. Italy’s Sara Fantini placed second with 71.38m.

Marie-Josée Ta Lou Smith clocked 10.92 (+1.2) to take the women’s 100m title. Fifteen-year-old Kelly Doualla of France placed fifth in 11.29, setting a new U20 national record and moving to fourth on the European U18 all-time list.

In the men’s 100m, Canada’s Jerome Blake edged Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo in a close finish, 10.06 (-0.1) to 10.07.

Mohamed Ali Gouamed of Algeria lowered his personal best in the men’s 800m to 1:43.56, winning ahead of Moad Zahafi of Morocco (1:43.82) and Spain’s Adrian Ben (1:44.05).

Australia’s Reece Holder claimed the men’s 400m in 44.54, finishing just ahead of Vernon Norwood of the United States, who clocked 44.64.

Dylan Beard won the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.15 (0.0), narrowly ahead of Cordell Tinch, who also recorded 13.15. Cuba’s Kendry Menéndez was third in 13.28, a personal best and tied fourth on the U20 all-time list.

In the women’s 100m hurdles, Alia Armstrong of the U.S. won in 12.53 (0.0), finishing ahead of Masai Russell, who clocked 12.69.

In the field events, Emily Grove cleared 4.73m to win the women’s pole vault ahead of Chloe Timberg (4.63m), with Olympic champion Katie Moon and Estonia’s Marleen Mülla both clearing 4.53m. In the women’s high jump, Australia’s Eleanor Patterson topped 1.97m, edging Yuliia Levchenko of Ukraine, who also cleared 1.97m on countback.

In the men’s shot put, Serbia’s Armin Sinančević won with a mark of 21.07m. Sweden’s Wictor Petersson followed closely at 21.05m.

Other notable winners included Egypt’s Basant Hemida in the women’s 200m (22.91, -0.3), Italy’s Eloisa Coiro in the 800m (1:59.21), and Gaia Sabbatini in the 1500m (4:07.41).
