Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent set a new facility record in the women’s 60-meter hurdles at the Big 12 Championships on Saturday (February 26).

Nugent, formerly of Excelsior and St. Jago, crossed the line in 7.91 seconds for the fastest time ever at Harry Hook Track in Ames, Iowa. Milan Young of Texas took second place in 8.18, and Demisha Roswell of Texas Tech finished third in 8.20.
Vashaun Vascianna, who attended St. Jago and spent one year at Kingston College (KC), was the men’s 60-meter hurdles winner. He clocked 7.75 seconds to beat his Texas Tech teammate Maliek Kendall, timed in 7.79.
St. Lucian Julien Alfred took second place in the women’s 60-meter dash. Alfred’s 7.17 timing was the same given to winner Rosemary Chukwuma of Texas Tech. Alfred’s Texas teammates Kynnedy Flannel (7.30) and Kevona Davis (7.33) were third and fifth, respectively.
In the women’s 200 meters, all three Texas women finished 1-2-3. Alfred topped the event final in 22.89 seconds ahead of Flannel, 23.02 and Davis, 23.30.
Jamaican Stacey-Ann Williams, representing Texas, just missed out on the women’s 400-meter title. Williams’ 51.60 placed her only behind her teammate Kennedy Simon, who won in 51.54. Kavia Francis of Baylor, who finished sixth in 53.71, helped her team to win the 4×400-meter final in 3:32.77.
Howard Fields III of Baylor won the men’s 400-meter final in 46.16.
Jacolby Shelton of Texas Tech won the men’s 60-meter final in 6.64 seconds. He also won the 200m in 20.80.
