Jamaicans are well-placed for title honours at the 2022 Big 12 Indoor Championships, following Friday’s (February 25) action at Iowa State University’s Harry Hoak Track in Ames, Iowa.

Jamaica’s World Under-20 100-meter hurdles champion Ackera Nugent is the fastest in the women’s 60-meter hurdles with 8.05 seconds. Nugent, representing Baylor, leads Demisha Roswell of Texas Tech (8.13) and Katarina Vlahovic (8.16).

Former St. Jago and Kingston College (KC) student Vashaun Vascianna, now at Texas Tech, leads the men’s 60-meter hurdles with 7.70m ahead of his teammate Maliek Kendall, who clocked 7.79 seconds and Baylor’s Johnny Brackins, 7.83.

Kevona Davis at Big 12 Championships

In the women’s 60-meter dash, St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred and Jamaican Kevona Davis booked their final tickets. Alfred, representing Texas, is the fastest at 7.20 seconds, while her teammate Davis is the fifth fastest at 7.32. Texas teammate Kynnedy Flannel. is also in the final with a 7.32 effort.

Jacolby Shelton of Texas Tech is the fastest male sprinter with 6.62 seconds ahead of Texas’ Marcellus Moore, timed at 6.68.

Jamaican Stacey-Ann Williams leads the women’s 400m qualifiers with 52.40 seconds. In the two turn-stagger, Williams’ teammates Kennedy Simon, (52.45) and Rhasidat Adeleke, 52.88, are the other Longhorns in the final.

Kavia Francis, the other Jamaican qualifier, enters with 52.92 for Baylor.
