Three Jamaicans hurdlers, Omar McLeod, Brittany Anderson and Ronda Whyte, were winners at the weekend’s (14-15 May) Track Meet in Irvine, USA.
Omar McLeod clocked 13.11 (+1.4m/s wind) to win the 110m hurdles from Devon Allen (13.26). Former American world champion Aries Merritt was sixth in 13.90.
Brittany Anderson, in the women’s sprint hurdles, topped the field with an impressive 12.69s run. However, the wind of +2.1m/s was just over the allowable limit.
Bahamian Devynne Charlton was second to Anderson in 12.74. Charlton’s compatriot Pedrya Seymore was 4th in 12.96. American Tia Jones finished third in 12.95.
Jamaica’s other victory came in the women’s 400m hurdles. Whyte of Sprintec won with a reasonably good 55.11.
Leah Nugent, the other Jamaican in the race, finished 2nd in 56.12. Sparkle McKnight of Trinidad and Tobago took 3rd in 56.54
Trinidad and Tobago’s Michelle-Lee Ahye, who recently served a two-year ban for Whereabouts Failures, was the best-placed Caribbean sprinter, 5th in 11.36. Jamaicans Christania Williams, 11.49 and Schillonie Calvert-Powell, 11.51. Daryll Neita, 11.12, won the event.
Trayvon Bromell ran 9.92 to take the men’s 100m ahead of fellow American Chris Royster, 10.22
On the second day of the Sound Track Meet (WACT Bronze and ATL), Laura Muir stepped down for a winning 800m in 1:58.71 from Allie Wilson 1:59.68 and Adelle Tracey (1:56.84).
Trayvon Bromell won the 100m in 9.92 (+1.5). Brittney Reese won the long jump with 6.80m.
Sifan Hassan clocked a world lead 14:35.34 for the 5000m win ahead of Josette Norris (14:51.42).
Mohammed Ahmed won the men’s race in 13:18.49. In 1500m, Matt Centrowitz with 3:35.26 beat Jake Heyward (3:36.24) and Marc Scott (3:36.28).
Other winners included Katie Snowden in the 1500m (4:02.98), Payton Otterdahl in the shot (21.53m, over Nick Ponzio 21.40m), Kendall Ellis in the 400m (50.30) and Jesus Lopez in the 800m (1:46.59).
