The battle to determine Florida State’s top High School sprinter was decided on Saturday (5 May).
Briana Williams and Tamari Davis faced each other over 100m and 200m at the Florida State High School Championships.
In the end the titles were shared between both sprinters.
Williams, representing Northeast, won the girls’ 3A 100m final in 11.31s ahead of Davis 11.36s. Makhaila Mills of Creekside took the bronze in 11.85.
“It was a good race,” she Williams of the 100m. “Getting to run against Tamari in the 100m, good race, she’s great competition and a great athlete.”
However, Davis returned later to run a stunning 22.48s, a huge personal best, to take the 200m title. Williams was beaten into second place, her time 23.15.
“I knew that race was going to be difficult, because she is great at 200m,” added Williams.
Williams’ teammate, Jan’Taijah Ford, finished third in 23.69s.
