Three Bermudians achieved Carifta Games standards at last Saturday’s (January 6) Bermuda vs Canada Track and Field Challenge National Sports Center.
Ashley Irby topped the 1500m in 4:56.03, well ahead of compatriot Tilly Norman 5:12.95 to secure the qualifying mark Carifta Games ticket.
Sakari Famous cleared 1.70m, the same height as Canadian Devyn MacKenzie, to take the women’s high jump and is also in line for the trip to Bahamas in April.
Also securing early qualifying mark for the Easter Weekend Carifta Games is Elisha Darrell, who cleared 1.95m in the men’s high jump. Darrell was, however, joint second with compatriot Cameron Fox, beaten by Canadian Locky Butcher, 2.00m
Harold “Tre” Houston of Bermuda ran 6.90 to take the men’s 60m dash, well ahead of Canadian Matthew Chan, 7.08.
In the women’s event, Taahirah Butterfield of Bermuda won the final in 7.75. She ran 7.74 in the heats.
Canada’s Caroline Striclj with 41.47 was the only female under 42 seconds in the 300m.
Ramzi Abdelahi and Jordan Mabbott, both of Canada, were timed in 35.56 and 35.96 respectively, in the women’s 300m.
It took Bermudian Kayla Raymond 1:42.07 to take the women’s 600m
Michael Petersen of Canada with 1:21.83 and Bermuda’s Johndell Cumberbatch, 4:29.99 were the men’s 600m and 1500m winners.
Claire Millard and Katie Zohorsky, both of Canada, were tied in the women’s 60m hurdles with 9.45secs.
The men’s 60m hurdles went to Taylor Stewart, who ran 8.38 in the final, slower than his 8.34 in the heats.
