McLeod opens season with 13.04 world lead

DES MOINES, USA – Jamaica’s Rio Olympics champion Omar McLeod opened his outdoor season here on the weekend (29 April) with a world lead in the 110mh.

It was the final day of the 108th Drake Relays and McLeod, despite the bad weather recorded 13.04 (+1.8) to finish ahead of Briton Andy Pozzi 13.24 (his 2nd fastest of the career), and the USA men Aleec Harris 13.37 and Aries Merritt 13.44.

Also of Caribbean interest was another Jamaican Rio athlete, Leah Nugent in the 400mh where she posted 55.94 for third, winner being USA’s Georganne Moline (54.66) a London 2012 finalist.

World record holder Kendra Harrison clocked another world lead in women’s 100m hurdles, 12.56secs (+1.0m/s) to beat compatriots Jasmin Stowers 12.76, Dawn Harper-Nelson 12.79 and Queen Harrison 12.86.

Lorraine Ugen 6.49m (+3.0m/s) topped the women’s long jump while Brittney Reese finished 3rd with 6.27m.
