RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Olympic 110m hurdles bronze medalist Hansle Parchment has failed to recover from a mid-season injury and will not take part at Rio 2016, his manager confirmed on Tuesday.
Parchment, who won a bronze medal at the London 2012 Games, had been given a medical pass from the JAAA National Senior Championships last month because of an injury and was hoping to recover in time for the Games.
However, according to a report in the Jamaica Gleaner, his manager Juliet Campbell confirmed that the 26-year-old was leaving the pre-Olympic training camp at the Linx Hotel in Rio de Janeiro.
In fact, the paper reported that Parchment was leaving the camp as early as Tuesday night.
The 2015 IAAF World Championships silver medallist from Beijing, was regarded as one of the pre-Olympic medal contenders after showing impressive early season form.
The Jamaican national record holder with a time of 12.94 seconds, has the fifth fastest time this season, at 13.10.
Andrew Riley, who finished third at the Jamaica National Championships last month, will take the place of Parchment in the men’s 110m hurdles heats.
He will join Olympic favorite Omar McLeod and Deuce Carter.
It is understood Riley was not in Rio, but is said to be on his way.
Yeah. Parchment and McLeod were possible medal contenders. Rooting for a speedy recovery.
