Edwin Allen won the Championship of America Girls’ 4x100m title here at Penn Relays on Friday.
The victory, according to Shellece Clark, the team’s captain and third leg runner, is “a great feeling.”
“We held the Edwin Allen banner and the Jamaica flag proud today,” she added of the victory, which came at the new Franklin Field, University of Pennsylvania.
The victory, which came in 45.73 seconds, was Edwin Allen’s third straight. Kasheika Cameron, Patrice Moody and Khamoy Farquharson were the other members of the team that beat St. Catherine High, who clocked 46.11.
“It was a resounding victory,” was how coach Michael Dyke described his team’s performance.
“Coming here we knew we had an excellence chance. We expected competition from Holmwood and St. Jago. The latter unfortunately messed up, but from the start today we realized the race was ours,” he added.
Holmwood Technical finished fifth in 46.68 and Green Island, sixth in 47.67 while Excelsior did not finish.
