Gittens, Jones top Barbados’ Awards

Barbados Olympic Association general secretary Erskine Simmons presents Junior Female Athlete Of The Year Sada Williams with her award.

Ramon Gittens and Akela Jones were the top Barbadian sports personalities in 2015.

Gittens, 2015 Pan Am Games 100m silver medallist, walked away with the Male Athlete of the Year Award. The 28-year-old also picked up the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) President’s Award.

Pan Am Games high jump bronze medallist, Jones, was voted the Female Athlete of the Year. The 2014 World Junior long jump champion also left with the Individual Excellence Award.

Sada Williams and Rivaldo Leacock were named Junior Athletes of the Year.

Among those receiving special awards during the evening (January 6, 2016) hosted by Barbados Olympic Association at the Hilton Barbados Resort  were – Olympic Medallists on significant Milestones: Jim Wedderburn, Obadele Thompson.
