BEIJING, China – Jamaica’s Rusheen McDonald ran a national record in the heats of the men’s 400 metres at the World Championships in Beijing, China on Sunday.
McDonald ran 43.93 seconds but finished second to Yousef Ahmed of Saudi Arabia who did the same time, which is an Asian record to make the race the fastest heat ever at a major track and field event. Isaac Makala of Botswana was third in 44.19.
McDonald and Ahmed were involved in a duel down the straight, which caused the fast time.
McDonald's time beat the porevious Jamaica record of 44.40 set by Jermaine Gonzales in 2010.
