Edwin Allen’s pair of Rochelle Frazer and Claudette Allen got their team off to a positive start at the 2014 Penn Relays here at the Franklin Field Stadium in Pennsylvania.
Frazer, fresh from her discus/shot put double at the Carifta Games four days ago, narrowly beat Hydel’s Shadae Lawrence. Frazer’s winning mark of 47.52m came on her 6th and final attempt to beat Lawrence, who had opened with 47.45m.
Brashe Wood of St. Augustine in Bahamas was 7th with 39.98m and Edwin Allen’s Tasha Crosse 8th with 39.61. Venique Harris of Ardenne threw 38.38 for 9th.
Allen, in the long jump, took top honour with a leap of 6.21m on her second attempt to beat Kayla Richardson of Columbia 6.15m. Shanice Lewis, also of Edwin Allen, was 3rd with 5.92m while Annastacia Forrester of Manchester High was 6th with 5.84m.
Andrenette Knight of Vere Tech won the high school girls 400m hurdles in 59.58 seconds. Knight, who was second at Carifta Games last weekend, won ahead of Morgan Harvey of North Hunterdon, who did 60.02
Krista-Gay Taylor of Alpha won the girls’ high jump with a clearance of 1.79m. She had easy clearances at 1.63m, 1.67m, 1.71m, 1.75m and 1.79m before failing at 1.81m. Cyre Virgo of Fleerwood was 2nd with 1.75m.
Other Jamaicans, Sashane Hanson of Herbert Morrison 1.71m and Shanae Mckenzie of Manchester High 1.67 were 4th and 6th respectively.
Kiona Bradshaw of Vere was 7th with 12.95m in the girls’ shot put won by Kailyn Clancy of California Area with 13.80m.
