Jamaican Samantha Elliott won the college women’s 400m hurdles on Thursday’s opening day of Penn Relays 2014 here at Franklin Field Stadium in Pennsylvania.

Elliott, representing Johnson C Smith University, won the event in 56.63 seconds. Jamaican World Junior champion Janieve Russell of UTech 57.32 and Texas University Danielle Dowie, who represented Jamaica at last year’s World Championships in Moscow, 57.93, who were second on third respectively.

Two other Jamaicans, InterCol champion Rushell Clayton of UWI 58.52 and Carifta Games Under-20 champion Kimone Green of Mico University 58.85 finished 5th and 6th respectively.

In the college women’s long jump, Jamaican Rochelle Farquharson, a student at Mississippi State, finished 2nd with 6.31m. Alexis Perry of North Carolina State won the event with 6.33.
