Specific to the Triple Jump, the world class Jamaican has been on top of her game for a few years, figuring prominently amongst the best in the world and has also been multiple Jamaican Champion.

Williams, who has a personal best of 14.55m, won the Jamaican national championship, at the national stadium in Kingston, in early July and was full of confidence leading into the Rio Olympics.

Having leapt 14.22m in the opening round, she easily qualified for the finals of the event. Williams, who is used to international competition at the highest level, would have fancied her chances to be amongst the medals, as prior to the start of the games, she was one of the best in the world.

No doubt she would have been motivated by the euphoric feeling in the stadium and the atmosphere of expectancy, which was evident in her first jump of 14.33m. She then made some adjustments and went up to 14. 48m. The experienced and seasoned campaigner, then turned it up a notch to 14.38m, but was still out of medal contention.

She then produced her best mark of 14.53m on her final jump, but had to settle for 7th place, with disappointment written all over her face and demonstrated in her actions.

There is, however, no doubt that Jamaica would have been proud of this very impressive standard bearer and she will no doubt be back in the not so far future.

Caterine Ibarguen, Colombian two-time world champion, won the event with 15.17m over World indoor champion Yulimar Rojas of Venezuelan, 14.98m and Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan, 14.74m.
