Veronica Campbell-Brown is very happy to finish her season on a hight note…After winning the women's 100m for the Americas team at the IAAF Continental Cup in Marrakech on Saturday (Sept 13), Campbell-Brown said "a good finish of totally good season."
"I'm absolutely satisfied with my race today."
Campbell-Brown took a convincing victory in the women’s 100m to lead Americas to a second successive IAAF Continental Cup one-two finish.
It was the fourth 100m victory of the season for the former world champion, but by far the Jamaican’s most dominant.
Strong out of the blocks, Campbell-Brown was clearly ahead just 25 metres into the contest, a lead she continued to steadily add to en route to her 11.08 victory, the fourth straight for the Americas squad in IAAF World Cup or Continental Cup competition.
“When you are a captain of the team you feel a big responsibility to be an example for other athletes,” said Campbell-Brown, whose 10.86 season’s best was set back in early June in Montverde, Florida.
European champion Dafne Schippers produced a strong second half, but the Dutchwoman was edged at the line by Trinidad and Tobago’s Michelle-Lee Ahye by a scant 0.01, 11.25 to 11.26.
Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Ivory Coast, the bronze medallist over the distance at the African Championships on this track last month, was next across the line in 11.28, comfortably ahead of France’s Myriam Soumare.
