Thompson-Herah describes leaving MVP as ‘rumours’

Olympic Games sprint double champion Elaine Thompson-Herah described the news that she is leaving MVP track Club as “rumours.”

“I am the fastest woman alive, so they are going to create some sort of news to try to distract the world, so it’s rumours, of course, rumours,” said Thompson Herah.

Thompson-Herah was speaking on Brother from Another YouTube discussion programme with Michael Holley and Michael Smith.

Asked by one of the hosts, “you just had the greatest season of your life. Your coach had you in the best shape of your life going into Tokyo; it’s odd you would make a change…So all of that stuff is just internet rumours, don’t pay any attention to it?
Thompson-Herah replied: “No, Don’t pay it any mind.”

“Any idea how this had gotten out there,” the other host asked…

“Probably because I didn’t show up at practice,” replied Thompson-Herah.
“I am still on my rest period, so probably persons speculating why I am not at practice,” said Thompson, who returned recently from international duties.

“So they are assuming because I am not in practice. They are going to spread rumours to say, oh my, and she is probably not coming back and stuff like that.”
“The media is always trying to create drama, im not in practice now, I am on my rest until October. I go back in practice,” she added.

Thompson-Herah said she had “seen articles in the media that I have died before, more than once, so it always rumours in the media. They are always targeting me; I don’t know why.”

Stephen Francis, who has guided Thompson-Herah to back-to-back Olympic Games sprint double titles, spoke to the RJRGLEANER Group.

“In short, I would not be surprised if she (Thompson-Herah) is not here. I don’t know if she is going to be here, but neither do I for anybody else in her situation,” said Francis.

Elaine Thompson-Herah ran a new Jamaica and Olympic Games record of 10.61 to win the 100m in Tokyo. She lowered the mark less than two weeks later to 10.54. She also broke Merlene Ottey Jamaican record of 21.53 to win the 200m in Tokyo.

She ended her season with victory at the Diamond League in Zurich.
