Jamaican half miler Simoya Campbell continues her Beijing World Championships quest at the Ponce Grand Prix Meeting on Saturday (23 May).

Campbell, who has a personal best of 2:02.43 done at the Jamaica Trials in 2014, is seeking to lower that time to 2:01.00 in order to make it to Beijing.

“This is my aim, because my PB is 2:02.43, and I think that with this year’s training, I can go lower than 2:02, I can go like 2:01,” said the UTech student.

So for Saturday’s Ponce Grand Prix, Campbell said she will be going “out there with a confident mindset, and just do my best.”

Campbell’s season best is 2:05.91 done to win at Jamaica’s Intercol Championships in March, and according to her, to get down to the World Champs qualifying standard …  “I just need to go out there and be focused” and “just execute a good race.”

Campbell will face two sub 2-minute athletes in Chanelle Price of USA and Canadian Jessica Smith in the two-lap event.

Rose Mary Almanza of Cuba, and Puerto Ricans Luisaira Morales, Priscila Morales and Tatyana Sanchez will complete the field.
