Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will not run at the Weltklasse Zurich Diamond League women’s 100m final on Thursday (9 Sept).
Fraser-Pryce, Tokyo 2020 women’s 100m silver medal winner, finished joint first on the Diamond League Qualification Standing. She finished with 28 points, the same as Marie-Josée Ta Lou.
The top eight women qualified for the final, but Paul Doyle, who is Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s agent, when asked, told Trackalerts.com, “no, she (Fraser-Pryce) will not (run).”
She ran 10.60, a personal best, to win in Lausanne and 10.84 for a similar result in Doha. She finished second to Thompson-Herah in Eugene and was fourth in Gateshead.
The Diamond League final, according to Doyle, “just wasn’t in the plans.”
Doyle also said Fraser-Pryce may run one more race this season.
Thompson-Herah headlines the women’s 100m field.
Based on her performances this season, Tokyo 2020 sprint double champion Thompson-Herah should have things easy against Ta Lou, Asher-Smith, Javianne Oliver and company.
The two-day bonanza of world-class athletics will see 32 athletes crowned 2021 Wanda Diamond League champion and get their hands on the Diamond Trophy and US$30,000 of prize money.
There will be two press conferences ahead of the final: one on Tuesday featuring athletes who will compete at the city event on Zurich’s Sechseläutenplatz on Wednesday evening, and one on Wednesday for those athletes who will line up in the Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday.
