Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will not run at the Weltklasse Zurich Diamond League women’s 100m final on Thursday (9 Sept).

Fraser-Pryce, Tokyo 2020 women’s 100m silver medal winner, finished joint first on the Diamond League Qualification Standing. She finished with 28 points, the same as Marie-Josée Ta Lou.

The top eight women qualified for the final, but Paul Doyle, who is Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s agent, when asked, told Trackalerts.com, “no, she (Fraser-Pryce) will not (run).”

She ran 10.60, a personal best, to win in Lausanne and 10.84 for a similar result in Doha. She finished second to Thompson-Herah in Eugene and was fourth in Gateshead.

The Diamond League final, according to Doyle, “just wasn’t in the plans.”

Doyle also said Fraser-Pryce may run one more race this season.

Thompson-Herah headlines the women’s 100m field.

Based on her performances this season, Tokyo 2020 sprint double champion Thompson-Herah should have things easy against Ta Lou, Asher-Smith, Javianne Oliver and company.

The two-day bonanza of world-class athletics will see 32 athletes crowned 2021 Wanda Diamond League champion and get their hands on the Diamond Trophy and US$30,000 of prize money.

There will be two press conferences ahead of the final: one on Tuesday featuring athletes who will compete at the city event on Zurich’s Sechseläutenplatz on Wednesday evening, and one on Wednesday for those athletes who will line up in the Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday.

  1. Some of these people commenting dangerous bad.It is so awful after you have given your service to your country for so long people disrespect you and say all manner of things about you.Why can’t people respect the athletes and also their decisions. Stop comparing and saying awful things about them. Whether they win or lose.Even the ones who are not big stars stop describing them and speaking awful things about them.It maybe not this group that does that but I’m so tired of seeing people do them so bad.

  2. The money was hers to lose ..Elaine could never have won the prize because Elaine does not have enough points. Shelly would have had to come in 6th place in that 100 meters in order to lose the $30000..6 place = 3points . All she needs is 5 place finish and she would have won $30000..

    • Colin Ankle The winner is not based on points anymore. Points are only good enough to get you into the finals. Whoever wins the final race wins the Diamond trophy. The format was changed in 2016 I believe.

    • Colin Ankle 2016 was the last year in which overall points was used.
A completely new system was introduced in 2017; the top eight athletes at each meeting are now awarded points (8–7–6–5–4–3–2–1), but these points only determine which athletes qualify for the discipline finals in Zürich and Brussels. The athletes who win at the finals are declared IAAF Diamond League Champions, and the allocation of the overall prize money is likewise determined solely by the results of the final.[9] This system, with the winner of the final automatically winning the overall championship, is similar to the former IAAF Grand Prix circuit with its Grand Prix Final.[10] As part of the scoring changes, the term ‘Diamond Race’ is no longer used. Instead, athletes compete in ‘Diamond Disciplines’ to become the Diamond League champion.

  3. After reading most comments,I realized most here have no clue about the BUSINESS aspects of an athletes life…Shelly is not a Tajay Gayle (IDIOT)…In life no matter how good things are going for you, sometimes you have to call it quits and comes another

  4. Why isn’t she running? You shouldn’t make such a statement and gives no explanation. You must know that the fans would want to know why, especially since Shelly was so thrilled to make it. Hope she isn’t injured.

    • She’s tired mentally & physically Jamaican fans. ..There will be NO breaking Flo’s record this year. Please stop making them feel guilty by not running before they get seriously hurt.

  5. In my humble opinion, $US30G isn’t enough of a winning prize money for the winner of a diamond league trophy and of an event. These athletes put their heart, sweat and blood into this to perform for us lovers of track and field like Basketballers, footballers and other high paying sports. Track and Field to me is the toughest sport in the world and is the base of all sports. These athletes need to get paid way much more. IAAF can do better than this and pay the winner at least US1 million dollars. $US30G when converted in my currency won’t give you a decent comfortable house farless for some of these athletes who work their butts off each today

  6. Maybe they had to choose between her and Talou and she choose to let her friend Talou run instead of her. Maybe that was why she posted that awesome post of pictures with her and Talou.

      • Sensenya Ben Nyah Hiding from Elaine for what, they have raced three times this season and she beat her once… Shelly is not as young as the others.. she must know how her body is feeling.

        • Rhea R Henry the is the Final of the Diamond League. She got a post Olympic victory over Elaine. That’s all she really wanted.

          • Sensenya Ben Nyah Maybe that all herbody can manage she said she has one more meet and she might call the seaon off… I was of the same perspective as you, but it all goes down to how she is feeling and how much more the body can go.

        • Rhea R Henry actually it’s 4 times i think and it’s 2 a piece one at the national trials and at the olympics and two at the diamond meets

    • K Paulus Seve she’s tired why risk it, she the 2019 world champ, automatic bye to the 2022 world championship. She has nothing to prove this season. Your crazy is you think she’s scared of Elaine
