Wayne Pinnock leapt 7.98 to qualify in 9th place for the Men’s Long Jump final on Friday’s (15 July) opening day of the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 at Hayward Field, Eugene, Oregon.
“I just put God first, and my coach told me to execute, and that is just what I did,” said Pinnock.
The collegiate standout said he is still not satisfied. “I wouldn’t say satisfied, but knowing it is my first World Championships, I went out there to make the finals”.
Although Pinnock is still nursing an ankle injury, he is not using that as an excuse for his execution. “I’ve been having problems with my ankles all season, but i’ll bypass it and hopefully pull out something in the finals.
Compatriot and Doha 2019 World Champion Tajay Gayle did not qualify, still dealing with his own injury problems regarding his knee.
The final is set for 8:20 pm (jamaica time) Saturday night.
