Within the first quarter of the 2014 Calendar Year, the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) has had a very successful term.

A total of twenty (20) athletes from across the Federation have qualified thus far to participate in the 2014 CARIFTA Games after attaining performance standards prior to and during the CARIFTA Trials held on Saturday 8th March 2014. Qualifying marks were attained in the sprints, mid-distance, hurdles, jumps and throws.

According to Mr. Timothy Morton, the SKNAAA Coaches Coordinator, “this is well beyond our expectations. Our target was basically to widen the pool of qualifiers not limiting to traditional sprint and jumps.”

He also added, “Over the past decade, we have been introducing a number of events unpopular to our Federation and can now see the benefit of our investment. I am elated to see multiple qualifiers in an event such, as the 400m hurdles, which was introduced about (5) five years ago. This also proves to me that the sky is the limit.”

The next activity on the Association’s athletic calendar is the RAMS Primary School Championships slated for 22nd – 23rd March 2014, which will be immediately followed by the TDC Interschool Championships slated for 28th – 30th March 2014.

Most of the qualifying athletes are expected to compete at the TDC Interschool Championships. Athletes who have not yet met the standard will also use the Championships to do so, as the deadline for qualifying is 31st March 2014.  The final team selection would be determined by the SKNAAA’s Selection Committee, which would then be ratified by the SKNAAA Executive Committee.

The 2014 CARIFTA Games will be held in Martnique April 18th – 21st 2014
