Jamaican sprinting legend Asafa Powell, who held the record as the world’s fastest man, is set to visit Ghana for the first time in February 2023. The former world-record holder in the 100 metres sprint and his Ghanaian wife, Alyshia Powell, will be accompanied by their two children and will engage in various charity and social activities while in Ghana.

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has invited the 40-year-old Powell to the West African country, where he will meet with the President of the Republic, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ghana Olympic Committee, the LOC of the African Games Accra 2023, and the Ghana Athletics Association.

Powell, who has consistently broken the 10-second barrier in competitions, will also inspire, motivate, and promote the development of athletics in Ghana and the interest of the country’s youth in the sport. He is also expected to strengthen Ghana-Jamaica relations and visit several Senior and Junior High schools, as well as sports facilities under construction for the next All African Games, slated to be hosted in Accra.

Powell’s visit will be covered by local and international media, and the public in Ghana is eagerly anticipating the arrival of the former world-record holder. The Jamaican sprinter’s visit is expected to have a significant impact on the country’s sporting scene and inspire the next generation of athletes in Ghana.
