Former Jamaican Kavon Nelson was shot dead at his St Andrew home on Tuesday morning (19 Sept).
Reports from the Corporate Communication Unit (CCU), the police information arm, are that about 12:30 am, Nelson was at his home when gunmen went to the premises and opened fire, hitting the athlete several times before making their escape.
Nelson was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The quarter-miler, who represented Jamaica at the 2014 NACAC U23 Championships, was a member of the Akon Track Club.
He is also a former student of Calabar High School.
Javon Francis, who trained with Nelson at Akon, posted on his social media page: “RIP to my best friend otherwise my training partner I never know this day would come”
