The question of whether Jamaica’s National Championships will go ahead this year is still up in the air.

Dr Warren Blake, president of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), promised a decision soon.

The coronavirus, which has killed over 338,000 worldwide, caused many events, included the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, to be postponed or cancelled in the last three months.

World Athletics has set aside August 8-9 for National Championships around the world. Trials or Jamaica Championships would normally be the final weekend of June.

“The committee will meet and see if it is feasible and desirable to, in fact, have the national championships,” president Warren Blake told The Gleaner.

“There are no major meets to use the trial to select people for,” he pointed out while adding “apart from choosing the national champions, one of the main reasons for the national championships is to select teams.”

  1. I dont think the times will be anything to talk about alot of athletes would have missed out on training because of the pandemic virus. Plus better you say championships not trials…..cause there are no major games being held this year

How you all expect for athletes to be at trials in all this stressful situation going around the world and athletes had no place to train and was under lockdown, not only that what is the trials for. Maybe when everyone was lockdown Jamaica 🇯🇲 was still open and all the athletes living overseas has no place to train Please post standards that you are looking for kmt

    • The same way we expect them to run at the Diamond League Meets coming up across the world.
Wouldn’t it be better for them to run at home than travel across the world to compete?

      Your argument is WEAK!
