Hydel delivered another record-breaking performance to win the High School Girls’ 4×400 Championship of America title at Penn Relays on Friday (29 April).

Alliah Baker led off to Oneika McAnnoff. After the first two laps, Hydel was more than a second ahead of Edwin Allen with 1:47.02 on the clock.
Kerrica Hill, who ran 11.16 to win Class 2 girls’ 100m at Champs, was timed at 54.34 to give Hydel almost a four-second lead.
Brianna Lyston, however, stretched the lead and took her team home in 3:32.77. The mark beat the school’s Penn Relays and Franklin Field facility record of 3:33.99.

Hydel’s 2017 team of Roneisha McGregor (53.1), Shiann Salmon (52.7), Charokee Young (53.31) and Abigail Brooks (54.88) held the old record.
Lyston said the 4x400m means a lot to Hydel and the aim “was to come out and retain our title.”
Oneika McAnnoff added: “It is a good feeling; we are unbeaten all season, so coming back and claiming our title means a lot.
Hill said it was the first time running the 4x400m but was glad she “came out and delivered for the team.”
Baker said she enjoyed her role on the start leg as it is a good feeling “to do your job and watch your team crossing the line in front.”
Edwin Allen took the second spot in 3:39.76, and Bullis School of Maryland finished third in 3:40.88.
