PHILADELPHIA – Edwin Allen defended their Penn Relays High School Girls’ 4×800 Championship of America title on Friday (29 April).

Edwin Allen was winning their sixth overall and four in the last ten years.

Rickeisha Simms, Leanna Lewis, Rushana Dwyer and Jessica McLean stopped the clock at 8:54.58 for Edwin Allen to beat Cuthbertson of North Carolina, 9:04.47.

Jessica McLean spoke of the joy to defend the title they won in 2019, the last time the event was held.

“We came out here prepared to do our best, and in the end, we won, so that is good enough.

“We went out there to get the record, but due to the condition, it did not come our way, but regardless of that, we are grateful,” McLean said.

Holmwood Tech’s team of Samantha Pryce, Cindy Rose, Jodion Mitchell and Andrene Peart did not finish.

Information reaching Trackalerts.com is that Pryce, who left on the track, suffered a broken leg.

Sport Minister, the Honourable Olivia Grange, confirmed the news.

“I can confirm that one of our young Jamaican athletes — Samantha Pryce who represents Holmwood Technical High School — was injured while competing in the 4x800m at the Penn Relays today.

“She has been taken to the Penn Medical Centre and we have been informed that she broke her leg when she fell in that race.

“She is currently being prepared for surgery,” added the Minister.
