Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce wasn’t expecting to run 10.63 this time of the season.
“Honestly, no, I wasn’t coming out here to run that fast,” she said of her new Jamaican 100m record. She achieved the mark at Saturday’s (5 June) JOA/JAAA Destiny Series in Kingston.

Fraser-Pryce now thinks if she can run this fast, what will her times be later in the season.

“If I’m able to run 10.6 now and the national championship is some way … honestly, I am just looking forward to what the process will bring,” she explained.

Fraser-Pryce moved ahead of Americans Carmelita Jeter, 10.64, and Marion Jones, 10.65, were above Fraser-Pryce on the world’s all-time list.
She, however, remains behind American world record holder Florence Griffith-Joyner’s (Flo Jo) at 10.49 done in 1988

The Doha 2019 world champion said she will “continue the work because I said this year I was just looking forward to breaking the 10.7 barrier, and I did it.”

“Thank God that I finish healthy.”

“I can’t get too complacent as I still have to make the national team at the national trials,” said the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games 100m champion.
