A record number of athletes are expected to scorch the all weather Mondo Track at the 36th MILO's  Western Relays which is set to start on time at twelve noon on Saturday and will run till 9:00 pm under lights at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in St. James.

According to Ray Harvey, the meet organizer "most things are in place at this time for an on-time start to the biggest and best relay carnival in the Western end of the island.  We have been working hard to complete all areas required to stage this world class track and field championship to the satisfaction of all relevant parties especially the spectators.  We will have some of the best athletes that this country has ever produced as well as some who are on their way up and some who are just learning their craft."

Senior athletes who will be on the track include Shellly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Nesta Carter, Kaliese Spencer, Christine Day, Hancel Parchment and many others.

The club and institutions include MVP, GC Foster College, Sprint Tech, Swept, UTech, UWI, MICO, MBA, Comets and new comers Cameron Blazers.

The high schools include Kingston College, Jamaica College, Wolmer's Boys, Munro College, Green Island and STETHS on the boys side and Holmwood Technical, Edwin Allen, Hydel, STETHS and Manchester on the girls side.

The prep and primary schools will also be on the track including defending prep champions St. James and Supreme (girls and boys respectively) and defending primary champions Barracks Road and Catherine Hall (girls and boys respectively),

The thirteen new entrants this year are Cameron blazers, The Knights, Mona and Redemption Track Club, Hydel, Exclesior, Exced, Belmont Academy, Hampton, St. Josephs High and three primary schools – John's Hall, Tower Hill and Flankers.

The day will start with the sprint hurdles for all classes for boys and girls as well as the 400M Hurdles Open for men and women.  This will be followed by the 100M and 400M for men and women open.  The relays will then take centre stage starting with the 4x100M relays for prep and primary, high schools, clubs and institutions.  The 1500M for women and the 3000M for men will then precede the short opening ceremony.  The final session will be all relays starting with the 4x800M, then the 4x200M, sprint medley and end with the 4x400M.  The only field events on the schedule, i.e. the Long Jump and the High Jump (all open events) will begin at 3:00 pm.

The high schools will walk away with three hundred and sixty thousand dollars ($360,000) in prize money.  The winner gets $30,000, 2nd – $15,000, 3rd – $10,000 and 4th – $5,000.  The money races are the 4x800M, 4x400M and the 4x100M Class 1 for girls and boys.
