COLUMBIA, S.C. – Two facility records and seven victories inside the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex concluded Alabama’s trip to the Carolina Challenge Saturday (23 Jan).

Saturday was highlighted by a pair of facility records and a handful of top-10 times in the nation. Tamara Clark picked up two victories on the day with a win the women’s 60m (7.28) and 200m (22.90). Clark’s top-time of 22.90 in the 200m, marked the second-best time in the nation. Mercy Chelangat crushed the old facility record of 16:50.52 with a second-nation leading time of 15:52.19 in the women’s 5000m.

Field Events

  • Alabama took home two silver medals in the weight throw, with Kieran McKeag (20.13m) representing for the men and Taylor Gorum (18.57m) for the women
  • The Tide went 1-2 in women’s shot put with Cherisse Murray (16.24m) finishing first and Nickolette Dunbar (15.86m) following suit
  • Isaac Odugbesan picked up his first victory of the season with a toss of 18.46m in men’s hot put, while fellow teammate Nathan Cooper (15.75m) placed fifth
  • In pole vault, Taylor Pickett (3.88m) and Riley White (3.78m) placed fifth and ninth for the women
  • For the second weekend in a row, Ryan Lipe (17-03.00/5.26m) won men’s pole vault by the fewest number of attempts, while Jacob Spotswood (5.26m) cleared the same height for third

Track Events

  • Eliud Kipsang cruised to a first-place victory in the men’s one mile with a national top-10 time of 4:02.86
  • Daija Lampkin placed fourth in the women’s 60m with a time of 7.57, but posted a 7.54 in the preliminary round
  • Newcomer Sophie Spada sported a 4:52.43 in the women’s one mile to place third
  • The Crimson Tide took over in the women’s 400m with Lauren Turner (3rd, 2:09.18), Sydney Milani (4th, 2:09.24), Bianca Carroccio (7th, 2:14.20), Margot Dooley (8th, 2:15.09) and Savannah Noethlich (9th, 2:15.87) all placing top-10
  • Mark Shannon (10th, 1:55.25) represented for the UA men in the 400m
  • Champion Allison (2nd, 46.23) and Leander Forbes (3rd, 46.41) recorded the fourth and fifth fastest times in the nation in the men’s 400m, while Christal Mosley (54.57) placed fourth for the women
  • Megan Patton (4th, 16:55.58) and Leahrose Mami (5th, 18:04.29) followed Chelangat’s pace in the 5000m
  • The men’s DMR (10:06.27) and 4x400m relay team (3:07.88) capped off the night with a runner-up finishes
  • The women’s 4x400m relay team placed fourth (3:49.18)
