There was a major blunder in the women’s short sprint at Saturday (25 Feb) Gibson McCook Relays, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The mistake resulted in Ramona Burchell and other runners completing 70 metres instead of 60 metres.

JAAA’s twitter is reporting: “The organisers will use a time final to decide the 60m for women at the GMR. The first heat will be run again, and then the top eight from heats 1 and 2 will run. The top times overall will decide the places. US$10,000 to the winners with top eight being rewarded financially.”

Despite the mishap, there were some notable performances at the event. Zharnel Hughes emerged as the fastest among the men’s 60m competitors, winning heat 3 at 6.57, beating his former training partner Yohan Blake, 6.57.

In the women’s 60m, Sashalee Forbes recorded the fastest time of the day with 7.18 in heat 3, while Tina Clayton won heat 2 with a time of 7.24.
