Sprinter wins three events again on her way to award

AUSTIN, Texas – Morolake Akinosun won three events at a track meet for the second time this season and again earned Big 12 Conference Athlete of the Week for her efforts.

Akinosun ran the anchor leg of the victorious 4×100 meter relay team to open the Texas Invitational with a win. The Longhorns crossed the finish line in 43.61 seconds to rank No. 5 in the NCAA so far this season.

Individually, Akinosun claimed the 100 and 200. She finished the 100 with a time of 11.37 seconds leading a group of Longhorns to a 1-2-3 finish at home. She backed that up with a Mike A. Myers Stadium record time of 22.70 seconds to win the 200 meters. She held off Olympic 4×400 gold medalist Natasha Hastings for the win while running the No. 3 time in the world this season.

This is the second Big 12 Athlete of the Week honor for Akinosun in her career after winning two weeks ago following the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The men’s award this week went to Joseph Richards III from Texas Tech for his wins in the 400 and 4×100 relay at the ACU Wes Kittley Invitational.
