Edwin Allen’s sprint relay team sent a strong warning to rivals at the 125th Penn Relays on Thursday (25 April) at the Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The quartet, running without two of the top sprinters, Kevona Davis and Serena Cole, stopped the clock in 44.21secs, the second fastest time in Penn Relays history.
Edwin Allen’s quartet of Class 2 sprinter Brandy Hall and Fredricka McKenzie, a final year Class 1, along with the 14-year-old Clayton twins Tia and Tina, was the only team to break 45 seconds.
Davis, a final year Class 2 and Cole, who like the Clayton twin, is in Class 3, will be included for the final, on Saturday.
Holmwood, 45.34, Hydel, 45.63, St. Jago, 45.70, and St. Catherine, 46.94, Rusea’s, 47.01, are the other Jamaican teams in the final.
St. Augustine’s of Bahamas, 46.48, also advanced to the Championship of America High School Girls’ 4x100m final.
Jessica McLean (2:13.41), Kayan Green (2:10.58), Abigail Pinnock (2:20.13) and Rushana Dwyer (2:18.32) carried Edwin Allen, 9:02.43, into the final of the High School Girls’ 4x800m.
Hydel led the way in the High School Girls’ 4x400m. The team of Garriel White (56.57), Charokee Young (52.91), Tafarra Rose (56.19) and Oneika McAnnuff (54.33) combined for 3:39.98.
Holmwood, 3:41.06, Spalding, 3:44.54, Petersfield, 3:46.71, The Queens School, 3:47.26, and Edwin Allen, 3:47.81 are the other Jamaican teams into the final.
In individual events, Adrienne Adams of Excelsior, won the High School Girls’ Discus Throw Championship with 48.91, while Ackelia Smith of Edwin Allen topped the triple jump field with 13.02m.
Danielle Sloley of Immaculate Conception won the High School Girls’ Shot Put Championship with 14.38m.
