The Race to Join Oblique Seville at the Jamaica Trials Starts Early Thursday

A total of 45 athletes are set to compete in the men’s 100m senior qualifying preliminaries at the 2026 Jamaica National Senior, Junior and Age Group Championships in Kingston. The round is scheduled for Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. EDT, and only the top 7 finishers will earn a spot in the main heats.

Jason Lewis of SWEPT Track Club enters as the fastest man in the qualifying field, carrying a seed time of 10.28. The 21-year-old will be the one to beat when the gun goes off Thursday morning.

G.C. Foster College’s Jahiem Watson and Sprintec Track Club’s Jace Witter, both seeded at 10.31. Jhordane Morgan of Dynamic Speed Track Club is listed at 10.32, while University of Technology’s De’haun Strachan and Javorne Dunkley of Elite Performance Track Club round out the next group at 10.33.

Racers Track & Field Club’s Zachary Cox is seeded at 10.36. Jehlani Gordon of Uptimum Performance Track Club and Dominic Williams of the University of Technology follow at 10.38, with Jeevan Newby and Racers’ Antonio Powell both listed at 10.39.

The field also includes some experienced names. MVP Track and Field Club’s Ramone Barnswell, 38 years old, is listed at 10.45 alongside Mazinho Barrett. Mckish Compton of Sprintec enters at 10.43. Javoy Tucker of Titans Track & Field Club is seeded at 10.47, while Jonathan Houston of the University of the West Indies and Martino Williams of The Mico University College are listed at 10.55 and 10.56.

With several athletes bunched between 10.28 and 10.45, the margin for error in the qualifying round is small. Only eight will move on, making every tenth — and every hundredth — count.

The 7 athletes who advance will join a strong main heat field that includes World Champion Oblique Seville, Ackeem Blake, Kadrian Goldson, and Rohan Watson at the top of the seed list.
