LONDON (July 20) – The London Stadium, host of the 2012 Olympic Games and 2017 World Championships, will welcome a sellout crowd of 60,000 on Sunday for the final Diamond League meet before the month-long break. A strong lineup across track and field events is expected to deliver world-class performances, with several global champions and rising talents on the start lists.

Olympic 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi leads a deep men’s two-lap field that includes Marco Arop, Bryce Hoppel, and Donavan Brazier, who returns to Diamond League action for the first time since 2022. Wanyonyi arrives in London with a world-leading 1:41.44, recorded in Monaco. The meeting record of 1:42.05, set by Emmanuel Korir in 2018, is under threat.

In the men’s 100m, Olympic champion Noah Lyles lines up against 200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo, a week after their clash over 200m in Monaco. Also entered are Ackeem Blake of Jamaica, South Africa’s Akani Simbine, and the British trio of Zharnel Hughes, Louie Hinchliffe, and Jeremiah Azu, the reigning World Indoor champion.

The men’s 1500m features a strong British lineup, including world champion Josh Kerr, 2022 world champion Jake Wightman, and George Mills, the second-fastest Brit in history. They will race against Kenya’s Phanuel Koech, Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega, and Australian duo Oliver Hoare and Cam Myers. The meeting record of 3:30.20, set by Hicham El Guerrouj in 2000, remains untouched for nearly 25 years.

Femke Bol returns to London in the women’s 400m hurdles after setting the meeting record of 51.30 last year. She will be joined by Andrenette Knight of Jamaica, Jasmine Jones of the United States, and Britain’s Lina Nielsen. Fellow Jamaicans Rushell Clayton and Shiann Salmon have withdrawn.

The field events include Olympic long jump champion Miltiadis Tentoglou, facing off against 2019 world champion Tajay Gayle of Jamaica, Wayne Pinnock, Mattia Furlani, and decathlete Simon Ehammer. In the women’s high jump, world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh competes in London for the first time against Australia’s Eleanor Patterson, Jamaica’s Lamara Distin, and Britain’s Morgan Lake.

World and Olympic discus champions Daniel Stahl, Kristjan Ceh, and Roje Stona will contest the men’s event alongside world record holder Mykolas Alekna and Britain’s Lawrence Okoye. Ceh holds the meeting record at 71.27m.

In the sprints, Julien Alfred, the reigning Olympic 100m champion, headlines the women’s 200m field alongside training partners Rhasidat Adeleke, Dina Asher-Smith, and Daryll Neita. Jamaica’s Ashanti Moore and Australia’s Torrie Lewis are also in the mix.

The women’s 800m will not include Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who has withdrawn due to injury. The field still features Jamaica’s Natoya Goule, Shafiqua Maloney, Uganda’s Halimah Nakaayi, and Britain’s Laura Muir, Jemma Reekie, and Georgia Bell.

In the non-Diamond League men’s 4x100m relay, Jamaica faces a crucial test as it aims to meet the 38.20 qualifying standard for the Tokyo 2025 World Championships. They will race against Great Britain, Canada, and Netherlands, the latter already qualified with 37.87.

The women’s mile, women’s 5000m, pole vault, and long jump also feature strong international fields, with names such as Gudaf Tsegay, Molly Caudery, Katie Moon, and Malaika Mihambo set to compete.

The main programme begins at 15:00 GMT, marking the final Diamond League opportunity for athletes to post top marks before the summer pause.
