NASSAU, Bahamas — The Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) has announced a 27-member squad for the upcoming World Athletics Relays Bahamas 2024, to be held on May 4 and 5. However, the team will not compete in the women’s 4×400 meters relay due to a lack of available athletes.

The Bahamian team will participate in four out of the five relay events, including the men’s and women’s 4×100 meters relays, the men’s 4x400m relay, and the mixed 4x400m relay. Notably, the squad features top athletes such as Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who will compete in the mixed relay, and Steven Gardiner in the men’s 4x400m relay. Devynne Charlton is also a standout in the women’s 4x100m relay team.
Team leader David Charlton explained the decision to omit the women’s 4x400m, stating, “We don’t have the required legs to competitively contest the women’s 4x400m relay.”
The roster for the women’s 4x100m includes Camille Rutherford, Devynne Charlton, Printassia Johnson, Jamiah Nabbie, Shayann Demeritte, Nia Richards, Charisma Taylor, and Pedrya Seymour. The men’s 4x100m team features Samson Colebrooke, Samalie Farrington, Ian Kerr, Carlos Brown, Deedro Clarke, Blake Bartlett, Jeremiah Adderley, and Warren Fraser.
For the men’s 4x400m, the team includes Gardiner, Alonzo Russell, Wendell Miller, Zion Shepard, Clarke, Zion Miller, Lhevinne Joseph, and Shakeem Hall-Smith. The mixed relay team is set to comprise Miller-Uibo, Anthonique Strachan, Lacarthea Cooper, Robynn Rolle-Curry, Gardiner, Russell, Miller, and Zion Shepherd.
“We’re very confident in this team,” Charlton told The Nassau Guardian. “We have tested a number of them at a number of events and they have proven their worth and their fitness levels. It is a very strong team.” He also noted the absence of many collegiate athletes due to commitments at their respective schools, which impacted the formation of the women’s 4x400m team. “A lot of our top athletes are not available and it would be a stretch to field a team in that event,” he added.
