Marcell Jacobs opens with 10.04, Lafond 14.53 WL

After not being able to open his summer season in Nairobi, Olympic winner Marcell Jacobs started on Wednesday (May 18) with a win at the WACT Challenger meet in Italy.

Marcell Jacobs first clocked a windy 9.99 seconds (+2.3w) in his heat and then 10.04 (+0.3) to win the final. Second was Ivory Coast´s Arthur Cisse in 10.10 (legal 10.09 in heats) and third, former European record holder Jimmy Vicaut in 10.12.

In the women’s triple jump, there was a World lead for Thea Lafond of Dominica, jumping 14.53 meters (+0.7w) to beat Ana Jose Tima from the Dominican Republic, who did 14.46 (+0.9w).

There was a high-quality 200-meter national record for the Dominican Republic by Olympic medalist Marileidy Paulino who clocked 22.59 seconds (+2.0w) ahead of Daryll Neita (22.81).

In the 100 meters, Zayanb Dosso won in 11.21 (+0.9w) after she improved her personal best to 11.19 (+1.0s) in the heats over Swiss runner Geraldine Frey’s 11.31 (11.29 personal best in heats).

In the women’s 400 meters, Fiordaliza Cofil from the Dominican Republic clocked 51.36 seconds. There was also a fast 400-meter hurdles run by Ayomide Folorunso (55.29) over Olympic finalist Anna Ryzhykova’s 55.61.

The men´s 400-meter hurdles had the fast Italians, Mario Lambrughi (49.03) and Jose Reynaldo Bencosme (49.29). Brazilian Rafael Pereira won the men’s 110-meter hurdles in 13.36 seconds (+1.6w) and Finland´s Reeta Hurske the women hurdles in 12.94 (+0.7w).

In the 800 meters, Ukrainian Olha Lyakhova (2:01.58) just edged Anita Horvat, who clocked a big personal best of 2:01.60. The shot put saw Nick Ponzio throw 21.12 meters ahead of Zane Weir (21.05).

Frenchman Amaury Golitin won the 200 meters in 20.73 seconds (+1.3w) and in the 400, Italian Brayan Lopez recorded a 46.03 personal best.
