Erriyon Knighton moves closer to Usain Bolt’s world record

Erriyon Knighton, the 18-year-old American sprinter, made history by winning bronze in the 200m at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. He is the youngest-ever individual sprint medalist in Championships history.

Erriyon Knighton closed in on Usain Bolt’s world U20 record on Friday’s (25) Day 7 of the US Olympic Trials in Eugene.

Knighton, who ran 20.11 to break Bolt’s World U18 record of 20.13 last month, was the fastest in the first round of the men’s 200m on Friday. He ran 20.04, a massive personal best.

Noah Lyles finished behind Knighton in 20.19.

Isiah Young ran 20.21 to take the top spot in heat 2. Fred Kerley won heat 3 in 20.41.

Grant Holloway qualified easy for the set-finals of the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.11. Daniel Roberts, who was also a heat winner, is next with 13.22.

Athing Mu, who recently signed a pro deal with Nike, easily booked her spot in the women’s 800m final. She leads the qualifiers with 1:59.31.

Kate Grace, second to Mu in 1:59.43 and Ajee Wilson, winner of heat 2 in 1:59.49, are the next best qualifiers.

Jarrion Lawson leads the way in the men’s jump with 8.12m. Steffin McCarter is the next best with 8.10m.
