Nugent runs 13.10, Venson on the double at Jamaica’s Carifta Games Trials

Kevroy Venson of Calabar High completed the middle and long-distance double on Sunday’s final day of Jamaica’s Carifta Games Trials at the National Stadium in Kingston.

Venson won Sunday’s 5000m final in 15:06.75 to add to his 3:52.81 1500m victory on Saturday.
Venson’s Calabar High teammate Rivaldo Marshall, like in the 1500m, again finished second in 15:54.32.

Kimar Farquharson, another of Calabar’s top athlete, again stamped his class on the 800m. He topped the U20 boys’ event in 1:51.17 ahead of KC’s pair of Giovouni Henry 1:52.75 and Amos Beadle 1:52.77.

Kishay Rowe of Alphansus Davis High 2:09.31 and Monique Stewart of Rusea’s 2:09.45 were the top 800m U17 girls.

Kemarrio Bygrave of Jamaica College 1:53.37 won the U17 boys’ final ahead of Adrian Nethersole of Steths 1:53.65.

St.Jago’s pair of Sancia Smith 2:10.99 and Alesia Douglas 2:11.03 finished first and second respectively in the U20 girls’ 800m final.

Antonio Watson of Petersfield ran 20.52 to beat JC’s 100m champion DeAndre Watkin 20.70 in the U20 boys’ 200m. Shenese Walker of Hydel 23.34 won the girls’ equivalent ahead of Edwin Allen’s Brandy Hall 23.37.

Richard Nelson of Clarendon College topped the U17 boys’ event in 21.45 ahead of Alicke Cranston of STETHS 21.61. Tonie-Ann Forbes of Edwin Allen is the U17 girls’ final winner in 23.98. She won ahead of Crystal Chambers of Rusea’s 24.09.

In the sprint hurdles, Jahiem Stern of JC 13.51 beat Rahyme Christian of Clarendon 13.62 in the U20 boys’ 110m hurdles while U17 boys’ final went to Yourie Lawrence of KC in 13.85 ahead of St. Jago’s Andrew Harris 13.87.

Ackera Nugent and Crystal Morrison battled, but the former prevailed in a wind-aided (3.9m/s) 13.10 seconds to top the U20 girls’ 100m hurdles. Morrison was second in 13.30.

Alexis James of Petersfield won the U17 girls’ 100m hurdles in 13.36 ahead of Immaculate’s Essence Burbridge 13.65.

Devontie Archer of Excelsior 50.88 and Shaaquena Foote of Petersfield 57.60 were winners in the U20 boys’ and girls’ 400m hurdles.

Valencia Williams of Hydel 13.01m and JC’s Apalos Edwards 15.76m were the U-20 girls’ and boys’ triple jump winners.
