Ashanti Moore and Kimar Farquharson were in record-breaking form at Saturday’s (8 Feb) Camperdown Classic at the National Stadium in Kingston.

Calabar High’s Farquharson was on fire, running 1:49.46 in the Class 1 boys’ 800m to beat his teammate Rivaldo Marshall 1:53.41 and the previous mark of 1:50.60 set 13 years ago by Theon O’Connor.
Moore, in the Class 1 girls’ 100m dash, ran unchallenged to cross the finish line in 11.47secs, beating the old record of 11.73 set back in 2017 by Junine Goodison.
The 19-year-old, who stunned many at Champs last year with 11.17secs to win the Class 1 girls 100m, beat Crystal Morrison of St. Jago, 11.63.
Also setting new 100m record was Moore’s teammate Shenese Walker, who won the Class 2 girls event in 11.89. She ran into a -0.2m/s wind to beat the previous mark of 11.90 set by Sr. Jago’s Joanne Reid in 2019.
In the Class 3 girls’ 800m, Kitania Headley of St. Catherine ran 2:16.17 to beat the previous record mark of 2:16.27.
St. Jago girls’ ran 47.16 to beat Hydel 47.91 in Class 4 4x100m. Both went below the previous mark of 48.08.
Hydel classes 2 and 3 girls were also in record-breaking form. They ran 45.76 to win Class 2 ahead of Wolmer’s 46.34 and 45.77 to take Class 3 over St. Jago 47.26.
Hydel also won class 1 in 45.53.
On the boys’ side, JC won Class 1 in 40.65; STETHS Class 2 in 41.72; KC Class 3 in 44.13 and Wolmer’s Class 4 in 46.55
In the field, St. Jago’s Shantae Foreman, 1.75m and Trevoy Smith of Herbert Morrison, 1.70m, set new records in the Class 2 girls’ and boys’ Class 3, high jump events, respectively.
