Akeem Bloomfield topped the men’s 400m at Sunday’s (18 Aug) Birmingham Diamond League.

Bloomfield, who did not run the 400m at the Jamaica Trials, and failed to make the 200m team, won today in 45.04 seconds.

“I feel OK, I got the win, but that’s all I can take from that,” said Bloomfield.

The former Kingston College (KC) star sprinter, described his race.
“Coming down the home straight, I saw no one in my eyesight, and I knew I had it.

“The eight points puts me in the Diamond League final, and that’s the big positive. My coach told me to get out and finish as high as possible, and so for that, I’m very happy.

Bloomfield, whose season-best is 44.40, beat Obi Ogbokwe of USA, 45.53 and Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great Britain, 45.55.

Two other Jamaicans in the event, Demish Gaye, the winner at Jamaica Trials, finished sixth in 45.64 and Nathon Allen, 46.90, was eight. Allen missed the Jamaica Trials in June.
