Calabar, led by an impressive anchor leg by Kimar Farquharson, won the boys’ 4x800m open at Gibson McCook Relays at the National Stadium on Saturday, February 23.
Farquharson, who received the baton some 15 meters behind Jamaica College (JC), quickly made up ground before taking charge in the homestretch. He took Calabar across the line in 7:31.71, a new championship record.
JC 7:32.18 and Kingston College (KC) 7:34.78 were second and third respectively.
In the female section, Edwin Allen dominated with 8:58.00. They won way ahead of St. Mary 9:09.95 and Holmwood 9:17.35.
Enid Bennett produced a shocker in the boys 1600m medley. They crossed the line in 3:25.99 ahead of KC 3:27.27 and Holmwood 3:27.79.
The Queens School, thanks to a brilliant leg from Daszay Freeman, stunned their rivals in the girls’ 1600m medley relay. Queens’ 4:00.83 just got them across the line just ahead of Holmwood 4:00.86.
